Story

Ray Liotta was confirmed for the role in the film in February 2022, but he died in May of that year before he could film his walls. Dennis Quaid replaced him, but Liotta is still mentioned in the director’s “Thank You Notes” during the credits..

The Substance The Substance tells the story of Elizabeth Sparkle, a celebrity in her 50s who is about to be washed out of the industry. An accident causes her to obtain a substance that can create a new, younger version of her.
The plot of “Substance” is insane, fresh and unusual
However, there is one catch: both versions of Elizabeth – an experienced star and her young colleague – can exist, but only one of them can be active at the same time, alternating weekly. In its essence, “Substance” delves into the topic of aging. As someone who often ponders this aspect of life, I find this a fascinating and nuanced study. Substance’s insane story is elevated by its stunning visuals. The visuals here are raw and raunchy, and definitely not for the squeamish.
The acting here is simply magnificent
Camera angles move from nervous walls to intimate ones, and all this is enhanced by an exciting auditory experience that pulls the viewer deeper into the disturbing world of the film. Demi Moore leads “Substance” and she is absolutely perfect in her portrayal. For starters, Demi is a sex bomb, and looking at the journey she takes in this film begs the question: If a character with Demi’s build and beauty goes through it, what can the rest of us hope for? Margaret Qualley matches Demi breath for breath, step for step. Dennis Quaid’s portrayal of the repulsive, terrifying boss is almost unnervingly light.
Overall, “Substance” is an exciting adventure and a grand debut in the body horror genre
Despite all the praise that “Substance” will receive, from the acting to the make-up and cinematography, the finale is a disappointment. Metaphorically, it is touching and significant, but if you judge the walls based on real events, the walls begin to crumble. 8/10.
